They Are Watching You

Hidden cameras and snooping children are pissing people off in the UK.

Hidden in foliage next to a path in the southeast England seaside town of Hastings are digital cameras. Their target: litterbugs and dog walkers.

The electronic eyes feed images to a monitoring unit, where they're scanned and stored as evidence to prosecute people who discard garbage or fail to clean up after pets, a spokeswoman for the town council said.

"It's becoming a bit Big Brother-like," said Sandra Roberts, 50, a Hastings kiosk manager, invoking George Orwell's 1949 book "Nineteen Eighty-Four", about a Britain where authorities pry into all aspects of citizens' lives. ARTICLE

Waiting for the Fall

They say autumn is just around the corner, but you wouldn't know it with the relentless heat. I can't wait for the cooler temps. I miss the autumns of my youth.

It's the end of the year, yet a time for new beginnings. New schools, new jobs, new challenges. Perhaps time for a new point of view.

All of Earth's creatures prepare for the coming winter. A time of patience and peace. A time for solitude and struggle.

Soon this stream will be iced over, the leaves fallen & washed away. Only to thaw and bloom again.

These pix were taken on a hiking trip a few years back. In the coming days & weeks I hope to release some of my own amateur nature photography into the public domain. I would be uploading those photos to Wikipedia or Flickr with the intention of letting them be used freely; in the hopes that they may help to increase awareness of our precious natural surroundings. I'll let you know when I make them available. I'll also be making some desktop wallpapers available here for your computer.

From Circuit City to Tent City

Homeless encampments dubbed "tent cities" are springing up across the US, partly in response to soaring numbers of home repossessions, the credit crunch and rising unemployment, according to a report. ARTICLE

I wonder if this is the beginning of a new trend...

Sighting

My cousin spotted someone wearing one of my shirts at a party. Cool!

Mobile Art

I snapped a couple shots of some decent boxcar graffiti while hiking recently.

Too bad the taggers in the city can't bring this level of skill to the walls near work. I'm tired of the half-ass attempts at being a graff writer. Bring your A game or stay home and practice.

The End. The Beginning.

My boss turned me on to this film called What a Way to Go: Life at the End of Empire. It's one of those films that shakes you to your very core. Here's a short clip.

On the Road Again

Welcome to the new ZombiePop, home of the original ZombiePop & Lo-Fi t-shirts produced and distributed through Northern Sun Merchandising. I plan to use this space to post original artwork, photographs, and a few thoughts & interesting news items.

As I type these words we find ourselves in a world seemingly spinning out of control. Just 15 years ago it appeared we were entering the Age of Aquarius. Peace and love and high tech prosperity were on the horizon. The art, music, philosophy, & fashion of the 1960s were experiencing a resurrection and we we sure, this time, we could change the world. But something changed. Did Y2K herald a new era of doom and gloom? The tie-dye t-shirts are gone. The hemp necklaces a thing of the past. The dream of a new age disrupted by the same old nightmare of corruption and control. As I type these words we find ourselves at a crossroads. Will we take the path less traveled or the road paved with our discarded hopes?
